* This came out of a hilarious conversation where divinebird and I decided that if you believe in Book Faeries, you don't clap your hands, you *headdesk* repeatedly and offer up an inkwell full of brandy. (The reason Book Faeries are so scarce is that we've all gone digital.)
Honestly, it made sense at the time!

Anyway to make a long comment short...I can absolutely see that Book Faeries wouldn't visit as much due to the digitization of the writing process. (And they would drink brandy from inkwells.)
I vowed I'd start a letter-writing campaign so that kids would write at least one letter to someone to experience how differently it looks, feels, is to write a hand-written letter, to wait for it, and to receive one in the mail. It's worlds different from email that it might as well be another universe and I don't know if they ever will experience it.
But I do think schools, in particular elementary and middle schools, shouldn't be so quick to introduce kids to technology, or rather to abandon the skills of handwriting and writing by hand. High school, where essay-length increases exponentially each year, is soon enough to start kids typing.

I love the letter-writing idea! I make my kids write letters and thank you notes by hand. They are so much fun to read and I know the family really loves getting them.

I don't suppose you've got this up on Tumblr, too, so I can share....?
*whispers*
I'm afraid and ignorant in the ways of Tumblr.
